What do we know about Sanditon Season 2?

OK the Tweets worked. We know we are getting more Sanditon. Now what?

OK Sanditon Sisterhood, it looks like the Tweets worked. Sanditon on Masterpiece has been renewed for not one, but two seasons! So what’s next for Charlotte Heywood, Georgiana Lambe and Sidney Parker? While we don’t know a lot so far, we can say that we already have some good news … and bad news. Here’s what we know about Sanditon Season 2.

Rose Williams will be returning to play Charlotte, but, here’s the bad news, Theo James won’t be coming back to play Sidney Parker. But before you get too heartbroken for Charlotte, Masterpiece promises that there will be plenty of romance in Charlotte’s future.

According to the Radio Times, “Kris Marshall is expected to return as Tom Parker, and Crystal Clarke will be back as Georgiana Lambe. Also returning are Turlough Convery (Arthur Parker), Lily Sacofsky (Clara Brereton), and Anne Reid (Lady Denham).” We are still waiting to hear about who else will be returning for Season 2. Or if any new suitors will be arriving next season …

Now that we know Sanditon is happening, and that the cast is mostly getting back together, what else do we know? When will Sanditon Season 2 premiere? What’s going to happen? Lucky for you, we’re here to answer all of your Sanditon Season 2 questions. Here goes:

When is Sanditon Season 2 coming?

Great news! According to Masterpiece, “filming is expected to begin later this year in and around Bristol (UK).” AND, the Radio Times piece also reported that BritBox is expecting to premiere Season 2 in the UK in 2022. There is no word yet on when the new season will hit Masterpiece.

What do we know about the Sanditon Season 2 plot?

Sanditon on PBS

Masterpiece quoted Belinda Campbell, Joint MD of Red Planet Pictures, as saying, “We’re thrilled to be able to invite viewers back to Sanditon for not just one but two further visits! Justin Young and Andrew Davies’ sensational scripts are relevant, timely and captivating and we can’t wait to share all the exciting new developments we have in store for our much loved characters. Now, more than ever, I think we could all do with some joy on our TV screens as well as a healthy dose of fresh sea air.”

Davies is back to write several episodes for Season 2. Justin Young (known for Death in Paradise) wrote four episodes last season. Young will take on the role of lead writer and executive producer for Seasons 2 and 3, developing where Jane Austen’s unfinished novel will take us next.

“We are absolutely delighted to announce a second and third season of Sanditon, a show that has inspired such a passionate and devoted fan base,” said Masterpiece executive producer Susanne Simpson in the announcement. “Audiences can expect romance, humor and plenty of twists and turns in these new seasons of Sanditon.”

Ugh can you tell us anything else about Sidney Parker?

Sanditon on PBS

There’s not much more for us to say. But here’s what Theo James had to say about his Sanditon exit, according to Masterpiece.

“Although I relished playing Sidney, for me, I’ve always maintained that his journey concluded as I wanted it to … The broken fairy-tale-like ending between Charlotte and Sidney is different, unique and so interesting to me and I wish the cast and crew of Sanditon every success with future series.”

Stay tuned for more details about Sanditon Season 2. And, remember, we can always revisit Sanditon Season 1 with KCTS 9 Passport while we wait for more episodes!
