Cascade PBS FAQs

KCTS 9 and Crosscut are now Cascade PBS. Curious about what this means for you? Here are some frequently asked questions (and answers!) to better explain that we may have a new name, but we are the same us!

FAQ

Why is KCTS 9 changing its name?

KCTS 9 has been around for almost 70 years, and over the decades there have been lots of changes in the media world! Today, people have more programming and news choices that ever—and more ways to engage with them. Having a name that provides a strong connection to our region and the renowned world of PBS is the best way for our longtime fans and news audiences to connect with us.

What’s happening with Crosscut?

The only thing changing at Crosscut is our name, as we combine Crosscut and KCTS 9 under the single Cascade PBS banner. Our Crosscut newsroom is continuing its investigative journalism and news reporting with the same insight, care, and impact as always. KCTS 9 and Crosscut have been connected for many years and share the same mission: “To inform and inspire our community to make the world a better place.” PBS is consistently ranked as the most trusted name in media—making it a fitting banner for the insightful journalists at Crosscut. Under the new name, our team will continue to provide readers with the facts and analysis they need to intelligently participate in civic discourse, and to create a more just, equitable and sustainable society.

Is anything going away?

No! All the broadcast and online programming you love and trust is staying put. Do I have to go somewhere different now for shows and news? You can still find us on television at channel 9, on the web at KCTS9.org and Crosscut.com. Our streaming video apps will be moving from the name World’s Best TV to simply Cascade PBS. This should happen automatically for existing app users. Next spring we’ll have a new name celebration, and you’ll be able to find all our content then at CascadePBS.org.

When will this happen?

You’ll start to see and hear the Cascade PBS name on the air, online, and in our video apps now. Then watch for a big celebration in spring 2024!

Do I need to do anything differently with my member contribution?

Your support for non-profit news and programming is so valuable — thank you! And, no need to change anything. If your donation is automatically charged to a credit card or bank account, that will still happen seamlessly. And if you’re in the habit of writing checks to KCTS 9 or Crosscut, we can still accept them — and Cascade PBS will work, too!
