Puget Sound Matters
Detlef Schrempf is a three-time NBA All Star who helped launch the Seattle Sonics to the NBA finals in 1996. Even though he's traveled far and wide in his career, he still calls Puget Sound home. He has spent most of his basketball career in Washington State, where he attended Centralia High and the University of Washington. Detlef played for the Seattle Sonics for six seasons, where today he is an assistant coach. Detlef is also involved in the community, and 1993 he along with his wife Mari formed The Detlef Schrempf Foundation. The foundation holds fundraising events for children's charities and has raised $7 million over the last decade. Seattle is home for Detlef and his family, and he enjoys all that Puget Sound has to offer. As a boater, he's seen firsthand how pollution threatens marine life and our own health too. But he's optimistic, and believes the health of Puget Sound will improve with teamwork "I think everybody says it's that attitude that well, I can't make a difference. And I think everyone can."
