Chimp Sanctuary
Chimps are our closest primate relatives.
Genetically, chimpanzees are a 98.76% match to people, which makes them ideal for medical research. But sadly, after years of being poked and prodded in the name of scientific advancement, many retired test chimps live out the rest of their lives in small, cramped cages, suffering from unimaginable boredom, loneliness and neglect.
A Northwest man is trying to make a difference. Distraught by the lives these animals are forced to lead, Keith La Chappelle has spent his fortune opening a chimpanzee sanctuary in Cle Elum.
We take you inside the sanctuary to see the incredible work being done to rescue chimps from medical labs to give them a new home and a new future.

I want to applaud you on the episode regarding the Cle Elum Seven at CSNW, and for showing what true compassion lies within the human spirit, as evidenced by Keith La Chappelle. Our closest relatives have long endured intense cruelty, confinement, boredom and loneliness, and I am so happy to be able to support an organization such as this - I'm even wearing my CSNW.org t-shirt as I type this!!
