Dear Emily:

Thank you for your story about John. I watched it on the TV last night and it made me cry. You have a lovely way with words...they were heartfelt and so very touching. It reminded me of when my father was in the hospital and how he didn't look the same to me and how the love in our hearts allows us to see with different eyes. You were a brave and caring girl to visit him and read...I bet these were wonderful times for him; when you visited. You gave him the best gift ever...your love.

Keep writing.

Em,
You are such an amazing kid - and you have such a beautiful heart. Your story was so special that I shared it with my friends at work a few months ago. They think you are incredible! I agreed with them. :) But I forgot to tell you how many people you impacted by sharing your loss.

When I got to work today (October 8, 09), I received multiple e-mails from friends who had seen your video on PBS last night. Their hearts were touched again by your courage and ability to grieve the loss of someone you love. You did what many adults cannot do. So this time I didn't want to forget to tell you how many lives you've touched.

That's one of the hard things in life... at some point every person experiences loss, and it's really sad that dying is part of living. But because every person experiences loss, that means that there are hundreds of people out there who have watched your video, cried with you, and know with all their heart that "talking it out helps."

So I just wanted you to know how many people, both adults and kids, have told me how you've reached out, touched their hearts, and have helped them heal too.

You're an amazing kid Em, and I'm so lucky to have you in my life. I love you.

Aunt Amy

Dear Emily,

I saw you on TV reading your story about Neighbor John. I thought it was a very good story and full of love.

I thought you did a great job reading, and I could see that you loved John and missed him.

Thank you for your story!

Tina

Emily, You are a amazing girl and I know John
thought so too. He enjoyed you and Joe so much.
I know he enjoyed your visits as well as your
reading to him. But most of he would enjoy
your continueing writing stories. I know I
can hardly wait for your next story. Keep up
being the sweet girl you are.

My Special Emily,

I am so very proud of you. John loved you very much and so do I! Thank you for being brave enough to put your feelings into words. It does help to "talk it out" when your heart is hurting. Keep writing stories Emily, you are amazing! I love you! Good job!

Love,
Mommy

Dear Emily,

When I watch this story I feel like my heart has just been sprayed with blue silly string. It is wrapped up and covered with a sense of the love you feel for John.

I wish grieving was easier, but like you say, "It helps to talk it out." Never lose that wonderful ability to talk and write about your hurts in life, Emily.

I'm proud of you,

Grandma Bonnie

Great Job Emily!
My whole family sat around the computer and watched you tell your story about a elderly man that was a very special person to you. You have made all of us think about the special people in our lives and how much we care for them.
Thanks so much.

Uncle David

Oh Em, you did a lovely job, thank you for reminding me of neighbor John.
Love,
Aunt Terri

Emily, Your grandma is one of my dearest friends. You, lucky girl have inherited her talent for writing. I must say I shed some tears reading you story. You brought John alive for me. He sounds like he was a wonderful man. He would love your story! Thank you so much for your story. Michele Gardiner

What a touching memorial to a great neighbor and friend. You have a real talent for writing and telling stories, Emily! Keep it up! When is this going to air? Love, Cousin Jeannie
