Reading Rainbow Contest

Reading Rainbow Logo

The Reading Rainbow contest invites children in kindergarten through third grades to create their own original picture books. "This contest invites children to open their minds and explore their world in an exciting and creative way," says LeVar Burton, host of Reading Rainbow.

The Reading Rainbow Contest ran from January 2, 2009 through March 12, 2009.

Local winners receive a prize package of Reading Rainbow books, DVD's, backpacks, games and an invitation to our studio to celebrate with families of local winners.

Top winners are also eligible to produce their story online and on air at KCTS 9!

First-place stories from each grade will move forward to the national competition, where final winners receive grand prizes like video cameras and MP3 players. And, because our goal is to encourage and reward effort, every child is recognized for their participation with a Certificate of Achievement signed by LeVar Burton.

For more information, please e-mail learning@KCTS9.org or call 1.800.930.6060.

You can tune in to Reading Rainbow on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m.

Major local funding for the 15th Annual Reading Rainbow's Young Writers and Illustrators Contest has been provided by BECU.
